Established in 2004, the Academic Leadership Program (ALP) is a cohort-based leadership program that provides training to new senior leaders at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM). Each year, 12-14 participants are nominated by the Dean of VUSM. These participants represent emerging and newly hired VUSM senior leaders. Particular effort is made to ensure diversity within each cohort, with approximately half being women and 25 percent being from underrepresented minorities during the course of the program. Approximately 200 senior leaders have completed the program during its 18-year history.
