Dr. Gannon is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, & Metabolism with secondary appointments in Molecular Physiology & Biophysics and Cell & Developmental Biology. She received her B.S. from Malloy College in Rockville Centre, NY, her M.S. from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, and her Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Anatomy from Cornell University Medical College. She came to Vanderbilt in 1996 for her post-doctoral studies and was recruited to the faculty in the Department of Medicine in 2001. The research in the Gannon laboratory focuses on the development, proliferation, survival, and regeneration of pancreatic insulin-producing beta cells. Dr. Gannon has been funded by the NIH, VA, ADA, and JDRF. She has held national leadership roles in the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Gannon has been an Associate Dean for Faculty Development for faculty in the School of Medicine clinical departments since September, 2019. She developed and leads the internal Mid-Career Leadership Development Program, a year-long program that helps faculty acquire the skills of effective leaders. The programs has trained over 150 faculty, many of whom are now in leadership positions. In addition to managing and creating professional development and mentoring programs for VUMC faculty, she regularly leads discussions on conflict management, effective communication, and the Imposter Syndrome. In 2019, Dr. Gannon received the Vanderbilt University Thomas A. Hazinski award for effectiveness in mentoring and professional development for faculty. In June 2022, Dr. Gannon was awarded the Lois Jovanovic Transformative Woman in Diabetes award by the American Diabetes Association and in 2023, she received the Paul Lacy Medal from the Midwest Islet Club. |

Ms. Tarr joined the Office of Faculty Affairs in 2021 to assist in the development and support of the ongoing Faculty Development Programs. She is dedicated to supporting the faculty and places strong emphasis on the highest quality programming. |
