V-ARISE Application Process

  • The 2027 V-ARISE application will open October 9, 2026.

    Transcripts from every college/university attended or attending 

    1. Competitive applicants have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
    2. Official transcript. Unofficial transcripts are not accepted.
    3. For medical students whose school does not provide transcripts, you will need an official letter of good standing. Applicant will upload this letter directly to their application.

    Statement of Purpose

    Two letters of recommendation 

    1. Submit names and current email addresses for 2 individuals that you have asked to serve as references.
    2. Letters of recommendation should ideally come from individuals who are familiar with your interest in anesthesiology and/or research. Applicants with previous research experience are strongly encouraged to include a letter from a research mentor.

    Headshot (jpeg): Most scholars share a headshot from their medical school, but you are welcome to share a picture of your choosing. If accepted, headshots are used for Vanderbilt Health badge, annual scholar composites, and scholar spotlights.

  • To be eligible to participate in the summer research program, applicants must: 

    • Be a medical student. High school students and undergraduates are not eligible.
    • Have an interest in pursuing anesthesiology as a specialty.
    • Have an interest in pursuing research as a career pathway. The primary focus of the program is to inspire the next generation of physician-scientists.
    • Be available to attend the entire summer session. Session dates are non-negotiable.
    • Be a U.S. citizen.
    • Have a current social security number for employment purposes.

    1. Proof of immunization records
    2. Background check
