Benjamin Cipion, MD, MS

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, where I discovered that the late, great Notorious B.I.G. was right: “Spread love is the Brooklyn way.” I learned the importance of love from my loud, animated family who emigrated from the Dominican Republic to the Empire State. Before attending the University of Florida College of Medicine (Go Gators!), where I also earned a master’s degree in medical microbiology and cell sciences with a concentration in medical microbiology and biochemistry, I worked as a respiratory therapist. While attending Stony Brook University (Go Seawolves!), I met my wife, and years later we now have three amazing children who love all the food, music, nature and outdoor fun Nashville has to offer. I was drawn to Vanderbilt because of its family atmosphere, welcoming environment and meaningful mentorship evident across both the department and the broader medical center. When I am not changing diapers, wiping my children’s food off the floor or trying to catch a quiet nap, I enjoy watching my children experience the world, going for walks with my family, hiking, traveling and exploring Nashville’s many local food and coffee shops.
