Administrative Leadership

Dr. Mallal has championed research that has driven improvements in clinical practice in HIV and infectious diseases since the early years of the AIDS epidemic.  He provides scientific vision and leadership, promoting collaborations on all types of HIV research within and across the institutions (especially translational and disparities-related research), improving communications and outreach to the community, and fostering productive interactions with colleagues at other academic institutions. He chairs the Executive Committee (EC) of the TN-CFAR.

Dr. Hildreth serves as the Associate CFAR Director at Meharry.  He promotes expansion of all types of HIV research at Meharry.  He emphasizes and promotes improved visibility of HIV biological and clinical research, and research training at Meharry. He provides scientific vision and leadership, promoting collaborations on all types of HIV research within and across the institutions, improving communications and outreach to the community, and fostering productive interactions with colleagues at other academic institutions. 

Dr. Haas provides clinical expertise, a strong NIH-funded clinical trials background, and a long history at Vanderbilt. He serves as Associate CFAR Director at Vanderbilt, as well as the Director of the Clinical Sciences Core. He is directly involved in the administration of the Tennessee CFAR at Vanderbilt, as well as in the Nashville HIV/AIDS provider community. He has developed many important collaborations, particularly in areas of genomics and pharmacology. His enthusiasm and energy has already drawn many new investigators into HIV research. He has aso established connections between our campuses. He continues to foster interactions with colleagues at other academic institutions. He is directly involved in all Executive Committee and Advisory Board activities and helps monitor Scientific Working Group progress and oversees all Clinical Sciences Core activities.

Vickie Myers is the new Research Programs Manager for our Tennessee CFAR and HIV Clinical Trials Unit (HVTN and ACTG) in Infectious Diseases. She joined us on December 19, 2016.  She is a graduate of Austin Peay State University with a degree in Psychology. She has been an employee of Vanderbilt since 2009 where she has served a variety of roles in research administration. Her previous position was the Senior Financial Analyst at the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center and has also served as a program coordinator for their Lung SPORE. Vickie brings an organizational vision and sponsored research experience that will be a valuable addition to the programs and our division. She is extremely excited to be part of our team.
