Helen Schafer, MD

Dr. Schafer grew up in Rutherfordton, North Carolina and studied at the University of Miami for college. After graduation, she lived in Nicaragua as a Peace Corps volunteer, focusing on community health education. Following this experience, she pursued a medical degree at the University of Texas-Austin Dell Medical School.  Dr. Schafer was drawn to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for its blend of creativity and patient care. Some of her interests include capacity-building in global surgery, medical education and burn care. She has been listening to Lost Frequencies radio in the OR. In her downtime, she enjoys exploring Nashville's cultural scene and running.
