Dr. William Obremskey

Dr. William Obremskey has an ongoing Department of Defense funded randomized trial on the effect of early weight-bearing in ankle fractures as well as a pilot study on early weight-bearing in uni-condylar toibia plateau fractures. The intent is to assess if patients may be allowed to auto regulate and return to normal activity and work sooner without complications of infection, loss of excision, or nonunion.

Dr. Obremskey also is PI on another Department of Defense multi center research project evaluating efficacy of PO versus IV antibiotics on infected nonunions after fracture fixation. The same group recently completed a similar study on PO versus IV antibiotics in postop infections after fracture fixation with no difference in reinfection rates in either group.  Infected non-unions are thought to be more challenging, and will study if the convenience and decrease cost of PO antibiotics results in equal clinical results.
