Program Information

About

The Academic Leadership Program (ALP) is a year-long, professional development program that is designed to refine leadership skills for distinguished senior faculty. The program provides the foundation for success in the roles of chairman, division chief or center director. The program engages distinguished faculty from the Owen School of Management, senior School of Medicine leaders, leaders from the School of Nursing, the Lipscomb University Institute for Conflict Management and leaders from Meharry Medical College.


Program Goals


Faculty Participant Goals

  • Provide leadership development for distinguished senior faculty entering administrative roles
  • Build awareness of the resources, regulations, policies, and essential responsibilities of working effectively within VUSM/VUMC systems
  • Enhance understanding of personal leadership styles, individual strengths, and impacts when working and leading teams

Institutional Goals

  • Orient School of Medicine leaders to infrastructure and resources
  • Share best practices, lessons learned and innovations in academic leadership, operations and strategy
  • Build an understanding of the organization and its enterprises
  • Build a community of peers

Program Structure

 

Target Audience

  • Emerging and newly appointed senior leaders at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine

Program Organization

  • Nominations by the Dean of the School of Medicine are provided during July/August of each year to the Office of Faculty Affairs
  • Participants are notified by the Office of Faculty Affairs of acceptance to the cohort during August of each year
  • Participant Biographies and photos are due to the Office of Faculty affairs by September 30th of each year
