Residency Education

The Vanderbilt University residency education program in Thoracic Surgery was established in 1957 by Rollin A. Daniel, Jr., M.D., and the program was accredited by the ACGME in 1972 under the leadership of Harvey Bender, M.D. Both the Departments of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery maintain a focused dedication to teaching, scholarship and discovery, as well as service to patients and the community.
