Postdoc Spotlight: Mona Mashayekhi, M.D., Ph.D.

 

Mona Mashayekhi, M.D., Ph.D. received her B.A. in Biology from University of Chicago. Mona did her Ph.D. and M.D. at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri. She is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the labs of John Koethe and Spyros Kalams. She is also a Clinical Instructor of medicine here at VUMC in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, & Metabolism.

When you were 5, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A Dentist!

 

What was it about science that drew you to it?  

The adventure of asking questions of the natural world and being able to answer them.

 

If you could study anything, what would it be?

Immunology all day, every day!

 

What's next for you?

Learn how to design a randomized clinical trial to ask mechanistic questions in humans.
