Dr. Neil Osheroff chaired the “Fifth International Conference of Biochemistry Course Directors,” which was held May 3-7 in Santa Fe, NM. The conference had 101 attendees from Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. At the meeting he presented a plenary talk on the “Integration of Basic Sciences into the Clerkship Years” by Neil Osheroff, Lourdes Estrada, and William B.

This distinguished award recognizes one individual from the southern region annually based on evidence of ongoing educational leadership and significant involvement in enhancing educational programs at an academic institution. Among other criteria, this award also acknowledges collaboration with others at an academic institution and beyond to enhance teaching effectiveness, the quality of educational programs, professionals development of self and others and/or the advancement of educational scholarship. Dr. Miller is among a group of elite educators nationwide.

Lindy Fenlason, MD, MPH and KIm Lomis, MD Julie Damp, MD, and Charlene Dewey, MD, M.Ed.

Charlene M. Dewey, M.D., M.Ed., FACP was invited to speak on Physician Wellness at Memorial Healthcare Systems in Hollywood, Florida on April 13th. In the half-day retreat Dr. Dewey reviewed the evidence on physician wellness, stress, burnout and impairment and engaged participants in discussion and activities to create a wellness program for their healthcare system.

Art Dalley, Ph.D. and Lillian Nanney, Ph.D. attended the 2015 American Association for Clinical Anatomists where they held a reunion for the Educator-Scientists who formerly trained at Vanderbilt. He was there to receive the 2015 Henry Gray Distinguished Educator Medal from the American Association of Anatomists. Dr. Dalley delivered 2 oral presentations and was awarded Fellow Status in the American Association of Anatomists March 31st.

Jesse Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH, led a Continuing Medical Education talk to a group of Army, Navy and Coalition healthcare professionals in Afghanistan on March 4, 2015.  It was the first CME talk on LGBT health in a combat deployed setting.
