Foundations of Health Care Delivery (FHD): Course Description
Foundations of Health Care Delivery (FHD) is a longitudinal four-year course which embeds students into the care delivery systems to:
1 Create self-directed learners
2 Cultivate respectful professionals
3 Integrate systems knowledge with clinical care
4 Prepare professionals with systems level skills necessary to provide care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable
The vision of Foundations of Health Care Delivery is to offer students a longitudinal experience in which they:
- learn about the systems of health care
- learn foundational skills that help them better understand how health systems function
- gain important skills to function in and eventually modify the systems
During the first two years of FHD, students complete course requirements in two tracks: Continuity Clinical Experience (CCX) and Vanderbilt Program for Interprofessional Learning (VPIL).
