Faculty

  • Sarah Ferguson double-majored in Dietetics and Public Health at Indiana University before coming to Nashville to complete her dietetic internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. After graduating from her internship, Sarah completed a Master of Public Health Nutrition from the University of Massachusetts and specialized in gastrointestinal nutrition. Sarah has worked as a dietitian in different GI-focused areas at VUMC including inpatient, outpatient, and clinical research. Since graduating from the program, Sarah remained involved with the Dietetic Internship Program as a preceptor, guest lecturer, and selection committee member before formally joining the faculty team in 2021. Sarah is passionate about training the future of the dietetics profession, approaches life through a lens of gratitude, and is dedicated to being a life-long learner.

  • Kerri Baxter received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and completed both a dietetic internship and master's degree in Clinical Nutrition at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After graduating from her internship, she worked in long-term care and acute care settings in Alabama and Maryland. In 2015, Kerri joined the Clinical Nutrition Department at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. While at Vanderbilt, she has served as a Clinical Group Leader and a preceptor for surgical and transplant-focused internship rotations. In 2019, she joined the Vanderbilt Dietetic Internship Program as an educational coordinator.

  • Katie Hinton received her undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky University and completed a combined dietetic internship and master's degree program in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Memphis. After completing the internship, Katie began her dietetics career as a clinical dietitian at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where she worked with both pediatric and adult patients for almost seven years. As a preceptor for Vanderbilt’s dietetic interns, Katie fell in love with education and developing the knowledge of dietitians-to-be. She completed her Doctor of Education in 2023 at Lipscomb University, and that same year she excitedly joined the internship faculty team as an educational coordinator.
