Vanderbilt Medicine: "The Expert from Nowhere" ft. Brad Malin, Colin Walsh, Cosmin “Adi” Bejan, Michael Matheny, You Chen

To understand a protein’s structure is to understand its function, says structural and chemical biologist Jens Meiler, PhD, distinguished research professor of Chemistry. It can take a PhD student up to five sleep-deprived years to determine the structure of a single protein, and of the 20,000 human proteins, only about 17% are considered to have had their structure determined experimentally with very high accuracy.

Dan Roden Will Receive PMWC 2023 Pioneer Award for His Leadership

Dan Roden, MD, Senior Vice President for Personalized Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will receive the PMWC 2023 Pioneer Award Jan. 27 during this year’s Precision Medicine World Conference. Approximately 2,500 people from more than 30 countries are registered for the three-day meeting, to be held in Santa Clara, California.

Colin Walsh Elected Fellow of ACMI Class of 2022

Vanderbilt’s Colin Walsh, MD, MA, was recently elected to the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) class of 2022. The 14 new fellows were inducted into the ACMI at the 2022 American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) Annual Symposium, held in Washington, DC.

VUMC’s BioVU Reaches Milestone With Biological Samples

BioVU, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s biobank, has reached another milestone — deep-freeze storage of more than 300,000 biological samples. Launched in 2007, BioVU is the world’s largest DNA biobank based at a single academic institution.
