VMG Mock Code

Course Type:  Live event, instructor-led workshop

Course Description:

VMG Mock Code in the outpatient setting is required for licensed staff every other year per VUMC’s Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) policy. Non-licensed staff may be required to complete mock code if there’s a department policy that requires them to do so.

Mock code is offered three times in the Spring during the Hands-On events and various dates and times at One Hundred Oaks (OHO) and the Williamson Tower in Franklin, TN.

The focus of Mock Code is on activities that should happen before the code team (or EMS) arrives such as Assignment of roles during a code, determining how the code is operationalized and practicing the flow of code events.  This helps increase staff member’s self-confidence, teamwork and response time in the event of actual code.

During a mock code, participants are provided the opportunity to practice, review and discuss the skills related to an actual code or emergency. This includes:

•    Calling a code; on and off-campus
•    Being the first, second and third responder
•    Practicing in chest compressions
•    Proper use of Air Mask Bag Unit (AMBU)
•    Documentation
•    Debriefing
