Dr. Zamora joined our faculty after completing a Pediatric Surgery fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine-Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, in Georgia. His clinical areas of expertise include advanced minimally invasive surgery in children; neonatal, congenital anomalies; pediatric solid tumors; thoracic pathology; and hepatobiliary and pancreatic disorders.

Research

Dr. Zamora’s research interests are in fetal and neonatal surgery, pediatric surgery clinical outcomes, and surgical education. His publications include Predictive Value of MRI Findings for the Identification of a Hernia Sac in Fetuses with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, American Journal of Roentgenology; Low Abdominal NIRS Values and Elevated Serum Intestinal Fatty Acid-Binding Protein Predict Necrotizing Enterocolitis in a Premature Piglet Model. PLoS One; and An Analysis of Outcomes Comparing Single-Site Venovenous ECMO to Multi-Site Venovenous ECMO for Pediatric Respiratory Failure, Journal of Pediatric Surgery. 

Memberships and Honors

Dr. Zamora is a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, the Association for Academic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He was named Resident of the Year, Department of Surgery, University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville, FL; Best Teaching Resident, Department of Surgery, University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville, FL, and Outstanding Teaching Resident, Department of Surgery, University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Zamora received the Eighth Annual Edward M Copeland III, MD Resident Paper Competition at the Florida Chapter American College of Surgeons Annual Meeting, Gainesville, FL, and the Samuel Stal, MD Memorial Award for Excellence in Research from Texas Children's Hospital Surgical Research Day, Houston, TX. He also speaks Spanish as a native language and is conversational in Portuguese.

Education

Dr. Zamora received his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He earned his MD from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, FL, and completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville, FL. He earned his Masters of Public Health degree at the University of Texas School of Public Health, and he also completed a 3-year Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine at Texas Children's Hospital, Houston, TX.
