Tara Nielsen, DO

Associate Professor
Obstetrics and Gynecology

A native Midwesterner, Dr. Nielsen has spent equal time in Iowa and Wisconsin, but since arriving for residency training at Vanderbilt in 2012, she has called Tennessee home.

Dr. Nielsen practices full-scope women's health care, including obstetrics and minor gynecologic surgery. She has a clinical distinction in pediatric and adolescent gynecology but equally enjoys menopause management. She approaches each patient through a holistic and integrative lens.

While she enjoys caring for women across the lifespan, Dr. Nielsen's particular interests include preventive and wellness care, vulvar dermatoses, hormone management and basic infertility. In addition to caring for patients, she is actively engaged in teaching the next generation of clinicians and uses her Master of Public Health degree to help ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in the ambulatory setting at VUMC.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Nielsen enjoys motherhood, hiking, Tennessee adventures, Christian music, a good book and sleep.
