The 51st Annual High Risk-Obstetrics Seminar will be hosted this fall by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at VUMC.

What: This is a CME approved, live lecture-based seminar that will include general sessions in the morning and several afternoon workshop options. Topics will include maternal mental health, intimate partner violence, sepsis in pregnancy and electronic fetal monitoring.

Suzanne McMurtry Baird, DNP, MSN, RN Dr. Baird is a graduate of Rush College of Nursing's DNP Executive Leadership track and Vanderbilt University MSN and BSN programs. She has extensive clinical experience in obstetrical nursing and currently consults for her company, Clinical Concepts in Obstetrics, LLC. Previously, Suzanne served as the maternal quality improvement specialist for the Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care and as an assistant director of nursing for Clinical Program Development at Texas Children's Pavilion for Women. She taught obstetric and critical care nursing at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and worked in L&D at VUMC. Dr. Baird has served on numerous programs for AWHONN, including the Board of Directors. She is an editor/author for the 5th edition of the textbook Intrapartum Management Modules and AWHONN’s High Risk and Critical Care, 4th and 5th edition textbooks, and has a podcast: The Critical Care Obstetric Podcast. | Stephanie Martin, DO Dr. Martin is a Maternal-Fetal medicine specialist, medical director and co-owner of Clinical Concepts in Obstetrics, LLC. Through her consulting business she helps hospitals of all sizes improve care for high-risk and critically ill pregnant women. She and her partners have created the Critical Care Obstetrics Academy to help bedside providers become better prepared to recognize and treat high-risk and critically ill pregnant women in any clinical setting. She is also co-host of The Critical Care Obstetric Podcast. In addition to her extensive clinical experience caring for critically ill obstetric patients, Dr. Martin has helped lead and develop MFM practices in several states. Her passion for educating has also led to her role as course director for America’s Board Review MFM Oral Board Exam Review Course, helping MFM candidates prepare for the oral board examination. | Julia Wood, MD Dr. Wood obtained her bachelor's degree at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and her doctorate in medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed her psychiatry residency at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital. Dr. Wood then worked at McLean Hospital and also as an instructor at Harvard Medical School before moving to Tennessee in 2012. Dr. Wood is currently in private psychiatry practice in Knoxville. She additionally serves as medical director for The Middle Path Intensive Outpatient Program and a speaker for Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care and Postpartum Support International. |
