Dr. Miller-Hughes is a Professor in the School of Medicine at Meharry Medical College with over 20 years of experience conducting basic, clinical, and translational research. Dr. Miller-Hughes integrates her expertise in community-engaged and patient-centered approaches in her independent research, which is focused on translating evidence-based, lifestyle interventions to mitigate chronic disease burdens. Dr. Miller-Hughes oversees many initiatives and infrastructure units that prioritize community and patient engagement in all research phases, including the Meharry Community Engagement Core and the Meharry-Vanderbilt Community Engaged Research Core. A Principal Investigator for numerous research awards and Center grants that actively engage community and patient stakeholders in research, Dr. Miller-Hughes also lends her expertise in developing and disseminating national, research guidance, including a recent report from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, “Pathways to Health for All: Health Disparities & Health Equity Research Recommendations & Opportunities.”
