Evidence-Based Coaching for VUMC Faculty and Physicians

A coaching program designed to support faculty and physicians in maximizing their highest personal and professional potential. Through engaging in collaborative strategies with a seasoned clinician, the participant defines their professional goals while learning skills to enhance workplace performance, support work-life balance, and achieve a higher level of fulfillment.
Collaborative Goal Setting
Smart Goals framework: SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ATTAINABLE, RELEVANT, TIME-BOUNDLength
3-month virtual or in-person program for faculty and physicians who self-refer or seek performance coaching at the suggestion of their supervisor. Meetings are generally biweekly.

- Collaboratively define the problem (self-report + measure, review of relevant feedback/veritas)
- Collaboratively define goals targeting areas of difficulty and promote optimal well-being and emotional resilience
- Clinician identifies and teaches empirically base skills & tools to support change
- Put solutions into action (practice in and between sessions) and observe/measure outcomes
- Collaboratively re-assess goals & develop maintenance plan for enhanced well-being & performance

Dr. Terako Amison is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist and Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She is a member of the VUMC Faculty, and she also is a Consulting Faculty Psychiatrist for the Faculty and Physician Wellness Program at Work/Life Connections-EAP. Dr. Amison sees coaching clients on Mon – Wed @ 8am-3pm.
Dr. Adriana Kipper-Smith is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a member of the Faculty and Physician Wellness Program at Work/Life Connections-EAP. Dr. Kipper-Smith sees coaching clients on Mon – Fr. @ 8am-5pm.
