Dr. Chakkalakal earned her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Miami. She completed her residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University with an emphasis on primary care medicine. She then pursued health services research training as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at Yale University where she earned a Master of Health Sciences degree. Dr. Chakkalakal joined the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2012 and became the Medical Director for Health Plus in 2017. She has received research funding from the Vanderbilt Center for Diabetes Translation Research, the Vanderbilt Faculty Research Scholars Program, and the NIH/NIDDK for her work on diabetes prevention. She also continues to practice primary care medicine as a provider in the Vanderbilt Adult Primary Care Center.
