Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital is located in Lebanon, TN. VWCH is a 245-bed, two-campus acute health care facility. VWCH is the seventh largest hospital in Middle Tennessee, as well as the sole provider of health care service in Wilson County. Residents will participate in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, the Medication Safety Committee, and the precepting of pharmacy students.
Residency Purpose Statement
The purpose of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
Program Overview
The PGY1 Pharmacy residency is a 12-month postgraduate program under candidate accreditation status by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). Our program began in 2019 with one residency position, that includes a variety of rotations at both Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital and Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The PGY1 year is focused on establishing a core skill set in clinical practice, pharmacy operations and pharmacy leadership and management. More specifically, the program works on development of these core skills by focusing on patient care, advancing practice and improving patient care, teaching, education, and dissemination of knowledge. Experiences are offered in Administration, Critical Care, Medication Safety, Behavioral Health, Oncology, Internal Medicine and Informatics. Focused and personalized needs are also incorporated into resident’s program goals. This site utilizes the ASHP Residency Learning System extensively, which offers the resident a well-planned experience, which is tailored, personalized and progressive.
