Geoffrey Fleming, MD named recipient of the 2020 Lillian B. Nanney Award for "Outstanding Service to the VUSM/VUMC Community of Educators"

The Academy for Excellence in Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Geoffrey Fleming is the recipient of the 2020 Lillian B. Nanney Award for Outstanding Service to the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM)/Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Community of Educators. This Award, established in 2016, is presented to a faculty member in the Academy for Excellence in Education who has served Vanderbilt's education community in a way that honors the legacy of Lillian Nanney, who is the founding Director of the Academy.

Dr. Fleming is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Critical Care Medicine where he serves as the Associate Director of the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Training Program. He has been extensively involved in undergraduate and graduate medical education. Dr. Fleming has served in a number of leadership roles at Vanderbilt, including Chair of the Faculty Senate, and he is currently Vice President for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at VUMC. By designing and implementing changes in the way continuing education is delivered, his work has helped transform professional development, resulting in education that is more real-time, hands-on, and team-based, and that positively impacts patient outcomes.
