Connolly, Shannon Named Chief Residents for Class of 2020

The Department of Radiology this week named third-year residents Cara Connolly, M.D., and LeAnn Shannon, M.D., chief residents for the Class of 2020.

Nominated by their fellow residents, Connolly and Shannon will take on their new roles within the residency program following completion of their American Board of Radiology Core exams in June.

“Being chief requires a degree of emotional intelligence that both Cara and LeAnn have,” said Patrick Couture, M.D.,who currently serves as co-chief alongside Erik Landman, M.D. “They are ideal candidates for the role, and I have no doubt they will do a good job.”

Together, Connolly and Shannon will facilitate interactions between the residents and attendings; manage resident schedules, including call, leave and pull schedules; provide mentorship for fellow residents; and engage with applicants throughout the recruitment season.

“We currently have outstanding chief residents who have been great mentors to our new incoming leaders,” added Cari Motuzas, M.D., Associate Professor of Clinical Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director. “I am grateful to Patrick and Erik for their dedication to the program, and look forward to working with Cara and LeAnn as they step into this new role.”

Couture and Landman will remain at Vanderbilt University Medical Center to complete their training as neuroradiology fellows following graduation from the residency program in June.
