Research Information

Dr. Sterling is an infectious disease physician-scientist with expertise in the epidemiology and treatment of tuberculosis and HIV. Special areas of interest include the treatment of HIV-related tuberculosis, treatment of latent M. tuberculosis infection, abnormalities in the human immune response that predispose to extrapulmonary tuberculosis, and mechanisms of drug-resistant M. tuberculosis, particularly fluoroquinolone resistance. Dr. Sterling has research collaborations in Brazil, Peru, South Africa, and the United States.
