Safer Unit 12C, 12th Floor Monroe Carell

mgrHello and welcome to our unit!

I’m Cristina Loaiza, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Nurse Manager of the Safer Unit, also known as 12C. We are located on the 12th floor at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

The environment on our unit is designed to provide safe spaces where our healthcare teams can provide effective care to our patients. We care for Pediatric patients aged 0 to 19 who are being treated for any behavioral health challenges, such as suicidal ideation, eating disorders, and autism spectrum disorders, as well as for patients with medical conditions, including traumatic brain injuries, chronic care requirements, and those needing ongoing medical monitoring.

Our patients are unique because they are individuals with diverse needs and backgrounds that impact their health needs and our opportunity to care for them. One of the perks of working on my unit is the close team collaboration we have with everyone on our healthcare team and the opportunity to join clinical projects to expand further and standardize pediatric inpatient behavioral health.

Our nurses are successful because they have motivation and commitment, effective communication skills, empathy and compassion, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, adaptability and flexibility, and interest in continuous learning, etc.

We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a 6-8 week individualized training period in which they are matched to a preceptor who will lead their day-to-day learning.

We encourage professional growth.

If your career goal is to make a real impact and contribute meaningfully to the care of pediatric behavioral health patients, our unit is a great place to launch your career.

If you have any questions about our unit, please email me at cristina.loaiza@vumc.org or visit Work at Vanderbilt University Medical Center to explore open nursing positions.
