Description

The Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, offers a one-year fellowship in pediatric pathology. The program provides a strong curriculum in pediatric surgical pathology, materno-fetal pathology, and pediatric autopsy pathology. There is one fellowship position available each year.

Institutional subspecialty expertise includes gastrointestinal/liver pathology, soft tissue/bone pathology, head and neck pathology, transplant pathology, genitourinary pathology, pulmonary pathology, hematopathology, cytopathology, dermatopathology, neuropathology, muscle pathology, breast pathology, renal pathology and clinical pathology. The fellow will also rotate through separate divisions of hematopathology, cytopathology, neuropathology, and forensic pathology. The fellow will experience a very diverse case mix, with more than 9,500 pediatric surgical pathology cases including 1,500 placentas, and 50 medical pediatric autopsies in 2018.

VUMC and Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt have been expanding in many areas; including the nationally recognized Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, organ transplant programs, as well as continually expanding educational programs, clinical and translational research and basic science programs. This is an exciting period of growth for the pathology department. Located in the heart of Nashville, Vanderbilt University is one of the nation's leading research and teaching institutions, with an undergraduate medical program, and many post-graduate programs contiguous on the same campus.
