MCE OR

Welcome to Medical Center East, commonly known as MCE. We are located on the third floor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Our unit is fast-paced, flexible, and team-oriented with the focus on providing excellent surgical care for our patient population.

MCE provides surgical care for a wide variety of patients, as we are a location, not a service line. Types of surgeries performed in MCE are reconstructive and cosmetic plastics, gender affirming, sinus, otology, oncology, bariatric, colorectal, ophthalmology, airway/voice, oral/maxillofacial, sleep apnea, robotics, and podiatry.

MCE consists of 11 operating rooms, including a dedicated robotic room and dedicated eye room.  We are open Monday-Friday and closed on weekends. MCE staff provide call coverage for ophthalmology and holidays.

Our team consists of RN’s, Surgical Techs, First Assists (RN’s and Surgical Techs), Clinical Staff Leaders (CSL’s), a Surgical Tech Lead, and a Charge Board Nurse. The team reports to a nurse manager and clinical nursing director.

  • MCE offers adult elective, urgent, and emergent care in the following areas:

    • Colorectal
    • General Oncology
    • Ophthalmology
    • Otolaryngology
    • Oral
    • Orthopedic
    • Plastic Surgery

We encourage professional growth.

If your career goal is to expand your nursing experience and skills outside of the traditional bedside care model, VUMC's adult operating room offers numerous opportunities.  You can expand your skillset in the role of the circulating nurse, scrub cases, be trained to first assist, or participate in team leadership.  Click the VUMC Nurse Residency Perioperative Track link on the sidebar if you are interested!
