Medical Center East OR (North Tower) are the 11 OR suites originally known as "MCE OR" before the South Tower ORs opened. We are located on the third floor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Our unit is fast-paced, flexible, and team-oriented with the focus on providing excellent surgical care for our patient population.
MCE provides surgical care for a wide variety of patients — we as we are a location, not a service line. Types of surgeries performed in MCE are sinus, otolaryngology (including cochlear implants, BAHA ear procedures, voice box regeneration and repairs, acoustic neuroma cases with neurosurgery), ophthalmology, airway/voice, sleep apnea, oral/maxillofacial, robotics, head and neck surgery including major complex flap cases for reconstruction due to cancer), reconstructive and cosmetic plastics, gender affirming, oncology, and podiatry. Our team also staffs bronchoscopy and pulmonary intervention procedures in the main OR area.
Patients come from many places inside and outside of the country to learn from our physicians given their knowledge and expertise in the most complex procedures. Our ENT experts also do two mission trips a year to other countries. Our aim is to make a difference, and our team takes pride in prioritizing a successful outcome for our patients.
MCE consists of 11 operating rooms, including a dedicated robotic room and dedicated eye room. We are open Monday through Friday and closed on weekends. MCE staff provide call coverage for ophthalmology and holidays.
Our team consists of RNs, Surgical Techs, First Assists (RNs and Surgical Techs), Clinical Staff Leaders (CSLs), Lead Surgical Techs, and a Charge Board Nurse. The team reports to a nurse manager and clinical nursing director.
