Laura Price, MD

MS Student, Applied Clinical Informatics

Fall 2026

My name is Laura Price, and I'm originally from Colombia, South America. I earned my medical degree from Universidad de Santander and worked as an Emergency Medicine physician for five years before moving to the United States in 2020. Since then, I've continued working in healthcare while adapting to the U.S. healthcare system. Before joining Ascension Saint Thomas Urgent Care in Tennessee, I worked as a Medical Assistant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where I gained valuable experience with clinical workflows and healthcare technology. I'm currently pursuing U.S. medical licensure so I can continue my career as a physician in the United States. I've always been interested in both medicine and technology, so studying Clinical Informatics felt like the right next step for me. Working in healthcare in both Colombia and the United States has shown me how much technology can improve patient care, but also how frustrating it can be when systems don't work the way they should. That's one of the reasons I'm excited about this program. I'm looking forward to learning from my classmates' experiences and seeing how they're using informatics in their own organizations. I also hope my experience in two different healthcare systems will bring a different perspective to our conversations. Joining Vanderbilt as a graduate student feels like a full-circle moment for me, especially after having the opportunity to work at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
