Jennifer Brewer, MD

MS Student, Applied Clinical Informatics

Fall 2026

I'm originally from Oklahoma, but after attending Vanderbilt for undergrad, I knew I wanted to make Nashville home. I received my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience. I went on to complete medical school at the University of Oklahoma before returning to Vanderbilt for Pediatrics residency. I am now in my second year of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship. My interests have always centered around improving how we deliver care for children, and I've been fortunate to work on projects spanning telemedicine, quality improvement, ethics, and pediatric oncology. My current research aims to leverage structured tumor sequencing data and clinical informatics tools to identify pediatric and adult patients who may have hereditary cancer syndromes but have not undergone appropriate germline genetic evaluation. I'm particularly interested in learning about ways to utilize data science, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing to improve clinical workflows, reduce missed opportunities for genetic testing, and ultimately make precision oncology more accessible to patients and families.
