MS Student, Applied Clinical Informatics

Fall 2026

I began working as nurse in 2009 as a Trauma nurse in Huntsville, AL. After which, I accepted a Trauma ICU nurse role at VUMC in 2011. During my time at VUMC, I attended UAB and graduated with my Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner MS degree. I subsequently continued my career as a VUMC inpatient Trauma and Neurosurgery NP. This led to serving as a super user and informatics guru for our service lines. Additionally, I participated in many operational efforts such as the Medication Reconciliation taskforce and Opioid Management Committee which relied heavily on EHR changes. When HealthIT offered me a position to assist clinicians with the EHR, I leapt at the opportunity. I quickly obtained an Epic Clinical Informaticist and Clinical Content Builder Certification and developed the VUMC Clinical Content Builder program. I was then recruited by Dr. Dara Mize, CMIO, and currently work as a Principal Operation Informaticist on her team. This role has allowed me to implement large scale project such as DAX Copilot, Aidoc, and Hospice In Place to name a few. My professional and educational background shared above has provided a plethora of informatics exposure. However, I desire to have a strong theoretical foundation of applied informatics. I am highly interested in learning more about artificial intelligence in healthcare, data integration, and data analytics to drive EHR decisions. This degree will afford me the opportunity and exposure to network and grow from experts. Moreover, I am passionate about combing healthcare and technology to improve patient care and reduce clinician burn out.
