Research Data Warehousing

Our general approach for repurposing clinical data to support the research domain begins with collecting data feeds from data sources and registries throughout the clinical enterprise for inclusion in two related, but distinct research data warehouses. Data are routinely de-identified for storage in a de-identified data warehouse called the Synthetic Derivative (SD). SD data access is provided to researchers through several software applications available in StarBRITE (Vanderbilt's Researcher Portal) and are also tightly connected to our de-identified DNA biorepository (BioVU). We also compile identified clinical data into a complementary data warehouse for research use called the Research Derivative (RD).
