Writing Resources

Scientific communication and writing is the key to academic success. VUMC and the Division of Hematology and Oncology both offer several resources to aide faculty members in the development of grants, manuscripts, presentations, and figures. Below are available writing resources to Hem/Onc faculty.

  • SWERV is a VUMC sponsored service whose goal is to provide for, enhance, and/or facilitate scientific communications collaborations within the Division of Hematology and Oncology. We are scientists with advanced degrees and extensive experience in both laboratory research and editing of scientific content.

    Services can include:

    • Editing and Proofreading
    • Grant Development
    • Manuscripts
    • Figure Development
    • Custom illustrations
    • Presentations and posters
    • Writing Workshops
    • Data Analysis
    • VUMC website development

    Director: sarah.croessmann@vumc.org
    Administrative Manager: alexandra.m.stephens@vumc.org

  • In collaboration with Women On Track (WOT), the Office of Faculty Affairs organizes and facilitates the VUSM Faculty Writing Group. The goal is to provide support, community, accountability, and feedback for scholars working on academic writing. Faculty members can work on any project during the writing groups – seminar papers, journal articles, grant proposals, conference presentations, etc. The intent of the writing group is to have a focused time and space for writing and to discuss writing issues with peers. Each meeting will begin with a 30 minute program on a specific writing topic, three 25 minute writing intervals, followed by a conversation about the progress of projects and questions and concerns that have come up about writing.
