Why did you choose VUMC Pathology: I am a pros and cons type of person and the number of pros Vandy Path offers is incredible. First, the location: Nashville is rapidly growing with excellent food, culture, and outdoor activities. Second, the people: one of the main reasons I applied to the program is because my mentor from medical school did her training and fellowships with Vandy Path and many of her co-residents are now faculty in the department. From the program’s social media presence (you have to check out the Q&A videos and the USCAT posts!) and my interview day, I could tell the residents and faculty were friendly, collegial, and shared my love of food and animals. Third, the institution/academics: Vanderbilt is world-renowned with the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital, and VA all within walking distance from the parking garage. The faculty genuinely care about wellness and are family friendly. The AP and CP training are equally strong with the incorporation of Diagnosis Management Teams (DMTs) on many of the rotations, which allows pathologists to be even more active in patient care.

Fun fact about yourself: I love all things Star Trek, X-Files, Stranger Things, and Futurama. In my free time, I enjoy running and pouring absurd amounts of money into the house I bought right before starting residency. I have two grey cats, Gracie and Ashley!
