All MAGEC fellows are required to participate in the three courses constituting the core curriculum of the program: Advanced Cancer Epidemiology, Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology, and Research Grant Writing.
Advanced Cancer Epidemiology Course Materials
To provide advanced training in concepts and issues central to cancer epidemiology. Topics will include methodology for conducting a cancer epidemiology study, state-of-the-art technologies for such studies, key cancer exposures, biology and major risk factors for common cancers.

Molecular Epidemiology Course Materials
To provide students with advanced training in methodologies used in molecular and genetic epidemiology. Topics will include considerations of study design; various types of biomarkers related to cancer risk, early detection and prognosis; discovery and validation of biomarkers; results interpretation; and issues pertaining to collection, storage, measurement, and statistical analysis of biomarkers, genome-wide scan/sequence data, and bioinformatics.

Research Grant Writing Course Materials
To provide training in concepts and issues central to successful grant writing. Topics will include an overview of grant preparation and cancer-specific funding mechanisms, identifying research topics and developing hypotheses, and in-depth analysis of critical grant proposal components, such as sample size and statistical power, study population and participant selection, and approaches.
