Phillip J. Williams, MD, MSc
Dr. Williams joined our surgical faculty as Assistant Professor of Surgery after completing the Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN in 2025. He completed the general surgery residency training program at the University of Toronto prior to coming to Nashville, TN. His clinical areas of expertise include the surgical management of colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, and both benign and malignant anorectal disease. Dr. Williams has special interest and expertise in minimally-invasive surgical techniques including laparoscopic, robotic, and transanal surgery.
Research
Dr. Williams’s research interests are focused the safe application of novel minimally invasive surgical technology in the treatment of a variety of colorectal pathologies. Included among his recent publications are: “Low Anterior Resection with Natural Orifice Specimen Extraction Performed with the HUGO Robotic Assisted Surgery System” Colorectal Disease 2024 and “Single-Port Robotic Total Abdominal Colectomy” Disease of the Colon and Rectum 2025.
