Mr. Gieringer received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Belmont University in May of 2014. His past experiences include four internships during his time at Belmont. He states that the two most notable would be his internships with Vanderbilt’s Department of Biomedical Informatics and with Ardent Health Care. During his internship with Dr. Erik Boczko with DBMI in 2012, he worked on fluid simulations in Mathematica and designed a microfluidic counter for researching quorum sensing in yeast cells. In 2013, he interned on the development team of Ardent Health Care where he automated metrics reports via BusinessObjects and updated software to complete Help Desk Analysts’ requests.

His current responsibilities include working with Dr. Reeves to convert the TARSQI (Temporal Awareness and Reasoning Systems for Question Interpretation) tool from Python into Java so that it may be used via Apache’s UIMA (Unstructured Information Management Applications) to promote reusability and modularization, and support downstream research in exploring Temporal Patterns in medical documents of patients with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. He also works with Dr. Matheny within the PCORI CDRN project to create a Distributed Analysis Network tool. The tool supports distributed analytics through implementation of JRI (Java R Interface) and RServe nodes that allow users to safely submit lines of R code to an R instance and efficiently return the results as text and, if desired, PMML(Predictive Model Markup Language).
