Magarik Appointed to AAMC’s Organization of Resident Representatives

Meaghan-Magarik.jpgSecond-year radiology resident Meaghan Magarik, M.D., Ph.D., was recently appointed membership to the Association of American Medical Colleges’ (AAMC) Organization of Resident Representatives (ORR).

An avenue for residents to provide input on AAMC policy development and activities, the ORR strives to improve resident education, training and the overall quality of patient care.

ORR members are nominated by their respective residency programs, and are appointed to two-year terms by eligible AAMC member societies. Magarik serves as one of two radiology members appointed by the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments.

“I am excited to have a role in implementing change to improve resident education and research opportunities,” said Magarik. “I look forward to meeting other residents who are interested in academic medicine, sharing experiences about residency and learning how to start a successful career in academic medicine.”

As a member, Magarik will engage thought leaders at the forefront of academic medicine, and will participate in professional development opportunities at two membership meetings each year of her membership.

In November, Magarik will attend the 2016 Annual AAMC Learn Serve Lead Meeting in Seattle. More than 4,000 leaders in academic medicine, from hospital CEOs and medical school deans to residents and medical students, will convene for sessions on how to improve graduate medical education.

“I can’t wait to hear all of the excellent plenary sessions, especially those with Atul Gawande, M.D., M.Ph.,” she said.

Currently appointed members are also eligible for leadership and administrative positions, which may be self- or peer-nominated. Magarik says she hopes to be elected to one of seven available positions at the Spring Professional Development Conference in March.

“Dr. Magarik’s unique insight and enthusiasm will be valuable to ORR,” said Ed Donnelly, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, and Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director. “We are very excited to have her represent Vanderbilt Radiology in this important role, and look forward to seeing what she accomplishes during her membership.”
