What is a Magnet Champion?

A magnet champion is a front-line activist during the quest for Magnet fourth designation for Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Magnet Champions will be provided training and materials to prepare them for their role.

What qualities should a Magnet Champion possess?

  • Exemplary job performance
  • Pride in being a Vanderbilt Nurse
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Willingness to go "above and beyond" the call of duty
  • Resourcefulness
  • Flexibility
  • Reliability
  • Persistence and consistent follow-through
  • Strong staff and patient advocacy
     

What are the Expectations of a Magnet Champion?

  • Energize and educate your colleagues
    - use tools provided to share information with your unit/area staff
  • Help staff recognize their contributions to the magnet culture
  • Participate in the magnet site visit

How many Magnet Champions do we need for our unit/area?

  • We recommend at least 2 Champions for each clinical department maybe more depending on size of department
