Title: Improving ACL Reconstruction Outcomes: Cognitive Behavioral-based Physical Therapy

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is one of the most common injuries among sports participants, occurring in approximately 300,000 individuals per year in the U.S. The direct costs of these injuries are over $1 billion annually. ACL reconstruction is the standard treatment for those who wish to return to sport. However, despite successful surgical intervention, up to 55% of patients do not return to their preinjury level of sport and 40% experienced limitations in sport participation. Our line of work, which aims to promote physical activity through sports participation, has the potential to have a significant impact on the physical and mental health of both adolescents and adults.
This multi-center randomized controlled trial tests the efficacy of a telephone-delivered cognitive behavioral-based physical therapy program in patients undergoing ACL reconstruction.
