Visiting Residents

Visiting Resident Geriatric Experience

The goal of the geriatrics rotation is to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health and the management of health problems related to aging. Fellows and residents participate in a collaborative practice with geriatricians, nurse practitioners and social workers as well as other members of the geriatric team in the care of older adults.  The attached orientation provides specific details of the rotation and an orientation to visiting residents.

Welcome to the Geriatrics Rotation! We are so excited to have you join our team. The goal of your exposure to geriatrics is to make you a good geriatrician for your own patients, regardless of the specialty you choose. We also hope to provide you with an experience in caring for older patients and participating in inter-professional team care.

1.     Your First Week. The Geriatric Service manages over 20 sites of care.

 2.     Parking. You may park in the VA Visitor parking lot.

3.     Epic Access. There is a three-step process for acquiring Epic (VUMC electronic medical record) access.

4.     Resources.  Please explore our Geriatric Google Drive for Geriatric references across a wide range of topics!

Thank you for your interest in Geriatrics. We hope your time with our team is meaningful, educational, and a positive experience. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

James Powers
