MicroVU is a microbial biorepository that utilizes an informatic pipeline to link microbial isolates and specimens to longitudinal EHR data in the Research and Synthetic Derivative (RD; SD). MicroVU has facilitated numerous projects that span basic mechanistic studies of microbial biology and pathogenesis; diagnostic research and development; molecular epidemiology; and clinical trials.

Associated Cores and Departments

Center for Personalized Microbiology (CPMi)

CPMi

Molecular Infectious Disease Laboratory (MIDL)

MIDL is responsible for the intake, processing, and infectious disease diagnostics for all clinical microbiology samples including urine, blood, respiratory (nasopharyngeal swabs and bronchalveolar lavages), and tissues. Across these different modalities, the MIDL handles over 700,000 samples per year.

Vanderbilt Urologic Infection Repository

The Vanderbilt Urologic Infection Repository (VUIR) seeks to better align the management of urinary tract infections (UTIs ) with the goals of precision care. To reach these goals, VUIR created a searchable database of clinical parameters from bacteriuric patients together with microbiologic data on the organisms, with biobanking of organisms supported by MicroVU. More information about VUIR can be found here.

Integrated Data Access and Services Core (IDASC)

The Integrated Data Access and Services Core (IDASC) supports research involving secondary use of clinical data and is a mechanism for receiving programming related to the Synthetic Derivative/BioVU and the Research Derivative. Multiple data resources, including MicroVU are included as a part of IDASC services. More information about IDASC can be found here.
