About

To date, MicroVU has metadata available for over 280,000 patient records, corresponding to over 600,000 patient specimens which generated over 750,000 microbial isolates. In addition to bacterial and fungal isolates, MicroVU also has access to discarded viral transport media from COVID testing, allowing researchers to examine viral loads over time.

All MicroVU specimens are linked to host electronic medical data through the Research Derivative (RD)

MicroVU metadata elements

  • Procedure
  • Specimen type
  • Body site location
  • Collection date
  • Ordering date
  • Antibiotic name
  • Organism ID
  • Antibiotic sensitivity method
  • Antibiotic sensitivity value (susceptibility)

Biobanked microbial samples and associated clinical metadata are available to interested study teams. Researchers are encouraged to set up an initial meeting with the MicroVU team to discuss their proposed project. Study teams work with the MicroVU and Integrated Data Access and Services Core (IDASC) core to define their cohort, data needs, and samples required.

Prior to initiating a MicroVU project, investigators needs to obtain Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Office of Clinical and Research Safety (OCRS) approval, and secured funding.
