Kaylyn Sachse is an Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Department of Anesthesiology with fellowship training in regional anesthesia and acute pain management. During fellowship, she spent a month in Kijabe, Kenya with Vanderbilt International Anesthesia (VIA). Since that time, she has been involved in education and capacity building efforts in East Africa.

Kaylyn is the currently the education director for the STAR Africa program. STAR (Supporting Training for Anesthesia Residents) in Africa is a series of subspecialty lectures created for anesthesia residents across six institutions in three East African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania). The subspecialties represented include: pediatrics, obstetric anesthesia, critical care/cardiac and regional/acute pain. In addition, STAR has partnered with CANECSA (College of Anesthesiologists in East, Central, and South Africa) to provide these educational modules to an even larger population of trainees within their educational network which will involve more countries and residency programs over the coming years. These online educational modules can be completed by trainees asynchronously and are supplemented with zoom lectures and in-person workshops.
