Research Focus

Biophotonics (light-based) tools for applications to medicine and biology, such as for early detection, diagnosis, and therapy for cancer; development and deployment of low-cost, high-performing point-of-care technologies for rural and global health applications.

Dr. Bowden and colleagues are developing a novel noninvasive smartphone-integrated device to provide accurate, point-of-care detection of jaundice in newborns of all skin tones. The project is supported by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.
