VIGH colleague, Dr. Fastone Goma, Appointed to Professorship

goma2.jpgOur friend and colleague, Fastone Goma, M.D., Ph.D., was recently appointed to professorship of Physiology and Cardiovascular Health at the University of Zambia (UNZA) in Lusaka. VIGH faculty and staff have long enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship with colleagues from the University of Zambia School of Medicine and with its affiliated University Teaching Hospital. We are delighted to share this news.

The topic of Dr. Goma's Inaugural Professorial Lecture was "Exploring and Promoting Heart Health - Cell, Clinic and Community: Knowledge Translation Approaches to Cardiovascular Research."  "Dr. Goma is a valued colleague and friend, I was honored to be included in the professorial entourage at the lecture," said Doug Heimburger, M.D. VIGH Associate Director for Education and Training.

Dr. Goma is a former Dean of the UNZA School of Medicine, a member of the National Academy of Medicine, and a physician with a Ph.D. in cardiovascular physiology with interests in tobacco control and cardiovascular disease. In fall 2017, he was on sabbatical at VIGH from August through November under the sponsorship of the UNZA-Vanderbilt Training Partnership for HIV-Nutrition-Metabolic Research (UVP) Program funded by the Fogarty International Center.

Congratulations, Dr. Goma!
