Peruvian Institute of Medicine offers Tropical Medicine course for third and fourth year medical students

La Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), named after Cayetano Heredia, one of the most eminent Peruvian physicians of the 19th Century, is located in Lima Peru. The UPCH is offering a four-week course in tropical medicine geared toward third and fourth-year medical students.

The course, called the Lumbrera Tropical Medicine Course, will be taught in English and will begin April 1, 2013 at the Instituto de Medicine Tropical Alexander von Humboldt at the UPCH. The course will feature clinical experience on a tropical disease unit, lectures, case-conferences, laboratory sessions and a two-day rotation in La Merced, a city in the high jungle of Peru.

The Institute of Tropical Medicine Alexander von Humboldt is the major tropical disease referral center for Peru. Peru has an usually wide spectrum of tropical diseases including leishmaniasis, yellow fever, brucellosis, typhoid fever, anthrax, HTLV-1, diphylobotriasis and free-living amebiasis.
