The Vanderbilt Health (VH) Office of Federal Relations, located in Washington, D.C., serves as the medical center's principle connection to federal policymakers on advocacy topics affecting VH patients, clinicians and researchers.
Managing more than 3.5 million outpatient visits and 83,000 inpatient discharges every year, VH is one of the largest academic health systems in the Southeast, and has world-leading specialty and primary care across hundreds of adult and pediatric locations. Additionally, VH provides more than $1 billion in annual community benefits, including uncompensated care, research investments, and training the next generation of health care professionals. Together, Vanderbilt Health and Vanderbilt University generate more than $22 billion in economic activity for the regional economy.
In addition to its clinical care activities, VH is a major research hub that routinely ranks among the top recipients of funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal research sponsors. The health system also serves as a locus of medical training in the region, offering approximately 180 residency and fellowship programs with more than 1,200 residents and fellows.
The Vanderbilt Health system includes the main Vanderbilt University Medical Center campus in Nashville, which includes Vanderbilt University Hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital, and many other specialized clinics and federally-recognized centers of excellence. As an integrated health system, Vanderbilt Health also incorporates several regional hospitals: Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital, Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital, Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital, and Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital. VH has over 180 clinical locations, including 13 rural health center clinics, across Tennessee and neighboring states.
Through the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network, VH works with 67 hospitals and 7,500 clinicians across Tennessee and five neighboring states to share best practices and bring value-driven and cost-effective health care to the Mid-South.
As of 2016, Vanderbilt Health is an independent, nonprofit entity distinct from Vanderbilt University.
