Katherine McDonell

Assistant Professor of Neurology

Dr. Katherine McDonell is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Vanderbilt University specializing in cognitive neurology with a focus in movement disorders. She earned her medical degree at Northwestern University and completed her residency training in neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. She completed a fellowship in cognitive neurology at Vanderbilt and subsequently joined the neurology faculty. Clinically, she sees patients with cognitive and movement disorders and is also actively involved in research and teaching.

Dr. McDonell’s research focuses on the cognitive and behavioral changes associated with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease. She has been awarded an American Academy of Neurology clinical research training grant to support her work investigating norepinephrine-targeted therapy in Parkinson’s disease. She is also involved in several clinical trials investigating new treatments for Huntington’s disease.
